Campsites Out of Season
Posted on by Josef Tautscher
Scotland is always picturesque, no matter what the season or weather you will always find a beautiful view around pretty much every corner you turn. With campervans, caravans and motorhomes having all the mod cons to keep you warm and cozy, all year round travel is becoming more popular as you can get on the roads when they are less busy to make the most of your time exploring the outdoors.
With many campsites being open mainly April to October it starts to become a bit more difficult to find facilities in the late Autumn, winter and spring months. Not every campervanner is keen or has the confidence to try the freedom camping option and there is always the need to fill up and empty out after a few days on the road.
So we are hoping that this handy post will save you the time of searching the internet for sites that are open all year round. You will find a handy list to help you plan a Highland, out of season get away being safe in the knowledge that you have a place to park and some facilities to help you on your journey.
The sites as far down as Aviemore and The Cairngorms, over to the West Coast including Lochaber and Skye, as far north as Durness on the north coast of Scotland and over to the east in Aberdeen and Braemar.
If not booked in advance, most sites appreciate a phone call out of season to let them know you are planning to stay and it is also worth noting that some sites do reduce down their facilities to only offer toilet blocks and not always showers or hot running water. That said you still receive a safe environment to park overnight and generally electric hook up, fresh water and emptying facilities.
Please see the map below that shows you the points where the sites are, you can click HERE to give you the online link. From the online map you will be able to get the website information for each site and it is also listed below.
If you know of any other sites available year round that are not listed, please do let me know so that we can make the list as comprehensive as possible.
Highland Campervans can help you with a suitable vehicle if you don’t own your own, we hire all year round excluding the Christmas and New Year period. Visit the HIRE FLEET pages to give you more information and please contact us for more information including planning your journey.
Hope this is helpful and happy all year round travels!

Having arrived unannounced on your door step at 3.15pm with a non functioning motor home habitat water pump, we were gone within an hour with a completely new pump and a labour bill which truly reflected the time spent on the task rather than our time in the yard. Michael and Daniel could not have been more accommodating of our dilemma and our situation. As two Aussies seemingly stranded and left 'high and dry', you guys allowed us to continue on our Scottish adventure thanks to your willingness and professionalism. Thanks
